The M4A1 is the AK's opposite number and its opposite in character: less damage per bullet, far less recoil. It does not get the AK's guaranteed helmet headshot, so trades come down to who lands more rounds — which is exactly what the M4 is built for.
Its spray is gentler and easier to hold on target, so a controlled burst at range is more forgiving than the AK's. The silencer is a real tactical choice rather than a cosmetic one: it hides your muzzle flash and quietens the shot, at a small cost to damage and a slightly different recoil feel. Many players simply pick one and stay consistent.
At $3100 it is also the most expensive part of a standard CT buy, which is why CT eco decisions revolve around it.
