Why a browser client gets further than the real game

The original Counter-Strike 1.6 is a program you install and a UDP connection to a game server. On a managed school or work laptop both usually fail: you cannot install software without an admin account, and outbound UDP to arbitrary ports is typically dropped.

Combat Skirmish has neither problem. There is nothing to install — it is a web page — and it reaches servers over standard web traffic on the normal HTTPS port, which is the one thing essentially every network leaves open.

What still blocks it, honestly

This is not magic and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If your network filters by category or domain, it can block this site by name like any other, and there is nothing a browser client can do about that.

What it removes is the install barrier and the odd-port barrier. Whether a given network lets you reach us is that network's decision.

What you need

A modern desktop browser and a keyboard and mouse. No account, no download, no admin rights. The first load caches the engine, then maps stream as you need them.

Please be sensible about it

Games on a school or work network are usually against the rules, whether or not they are technically reachable. That is between you and your network's policy — we would rather say so than pretend the question does not exist.
