The M249 costs $5750 — more than an AWP — and carries a hundred rounds. It is the rarest gun on a public server for good reason: for the price of it you could buy a rifle, full armour and a complete set of grenades.
Its moment is suppression: a held angle nobody can peek because the bullets simply do not stop. That is a narrow use case, and everyone knows it, which is exactly why it is memorable when it works.
